Highlights from Our Session on AI in Hiring
We recently presented a session at the Iowa Employment Conference regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence in recruiting. We thought we would share some highlights from the event.
There initially was a common misconception that artificial intelligence is applicable only to big ideas like automated cars and humanoid robots. While those were definitely on the forefront of the technology, AI is also being implemented widely on a smaller scale for things like financial and legal tools, healthcare software, advertising platforms and hiring tools.
AI helps recruiters and hiring managers by automating backend processes, sorting resumes quickly and tracking applicants smoothly. One of the most promising aspects of AI-based interviewing tools is their ability to mitigate unconscious biases. These tools treat all candidates equally, devoid of any preconceived notions based on gender, ethnicity, or appearance.
Speed of response to an applicant is, and likely always will be, one of my principles of best hiring practices. Embedding a trained AI chatbot with NLP (natural learning process) in the application process can speed up the time needed to screen candidates.
As with any shift in business, every action typically has a counter action. The recruitment landscape is being reshaped by the rapid adoption of AI and generative AI technologies, job searching also has been impacted.
For job seekers, these tools offer powerful ways to streamline applications, optimize resumes, and enhance interview preparations. For example, candidates using AI tools like Jobscan and Resumatch to analyze job descriptions and tailor their resumes with relevant keywords, are hoping to significantly increase their chances of getting noticed.
In Conclusion
As with any shift in business, every action typically has a counter action. The recruitment landscape is being reshaped by the rapid adoption of AI and generative AI technologies, job searching also has been impacted. Think of AI as a partner, not a replacement for what we want to achieve. AI can add value and save time, but humans are still in control. Your judgment and review cannot be replaced by AI; rather, AI should complement and enhance your work.
